Why Virtual Worlds?

The entire web in 3D

Why not?!

People are always saying they have no time to be in virtual worlds. They say that they cannot imagine themselves sitting in front of the computer, chatting with other avatars. “It’s silly and a waste of time.”

Yet, people have no problem sitting in front of their computer screens on the internet checking email, surfing and even shopping online for perhaps 1 – 2 hours minimum.

What if oneday, all those internet sites that people normally visited suddenly turned into 3D virtual worlds with one click of a button. Sounds silly? Perhaps, but it’s happening now.

ExitReality
is a new company that does just that. With a simple free plug-in that you download after an easy sign up process (no need to check your email for verification), you can automatically visit a website by typing the site address in a blank field, clicking the Launch in 3D button and suddenly, the 2D website turns into a virtual world.

It may seem a little science fiction for some whose brains have a hard time wrapping themselves around that concept but regardless of how long it takes to understand the technology, the fact is, it’s here NOW.

It took the 2D internet only a mere 15 years to get to where it is today – - an amalgamation of creative, innovative Web 2.0 tools that allow for people to interact, network and communicate in ways they have never been able to do before, online. There are applications out there that take word of mouth marketing to a whole other level – instantaneous feedback.

Twitter for example, you either love it or simply cannot understand it. For those twitterers out there, it’s become a whole new way of digging up news stories, finding out about the latest start-up projects and basically, sharing what’s new in the world of Web 2.0.

These instantaneous messages or tweets suddenly become valuable to somebody that knows how to use the information they see and turn it around to work for them.

Of course Twitter is not for everybody. One of the greatest uses of Twitter is that industry moguls and those that want to maintain a position of being, ‘in the know’ can now share and retrieve vital information for their businesses and projects.

So how does this all tie in with virtual worlds?

Virtual worlds simply extend the Twitter experience turning tweets into one-on-one conversations with people that happen to be on the same platform at any one given moment on the web.

Second Life offers this experience but the client is so unreliable at times and not everyone can spare the minutes needed to log on – - only to find that a region is down.

ExitReality becomes the solution.

Businesses can now engage their customers and potential ones right from their very own website – - in 3D that is. A visitor can not only access the information on the 2D website but they can also take their experience one step further and launch the 2D site into a 3D virtual world and interact and engage with the people that are there – - think of designated company digital concierges.

There’s no need for a customer to download a client like Second Life, instead, they simply sign up/log on and access the 2D site with a free plug-in.

ExitReality has also opened up the doors to an endless array of opportunity for advertisers and marketers. Instead of purchasing $1000. U.S. for one sim(ulator) in Second Life and paying $295./month for maintenance, their website automatically turns into a 3D virtual world that virtually costs nothing.

Advertisers will be able to keep their costs down while still reaching their old customers in a brand new way and hopefully acquiring new ones from new visitors to their site. At the same time they are also able to build an engaging customer experience, right from their 3D website.

ExitReality’s easy to install plugin is like the golden key that unlocks a magical world.

VIvaty has dibs on the Facebook and AIM crowd, Google’s Lively with people using gmail/googlemail, Just Leap In is independent from any social platform while ExitReality has the world wide web.

ExitReality seems to be even more of what Google Lively is trying to be. Everyone says Lively is competition for Second Life, but they aren’t really all that similar in my opinion. ExitReality seems to be more comparable to Lively.

BB, I agree. One cannot really compare these web based browser enabled virtual worlds to a 3D client such as Second Life. It would just not be fair.
I would compare Lively more to Vivaty in that they both have a platform that is already connected to a social media site i.e. Vivaty with Facebook and AIM and Lively with people that have gmail/googlemail accounts.

There is also JustLeapIn but they are independent (for now) of any social networking site.

What sets ExitReality REALLY apart from the rest of the current web enabled virtual worlds is their free plug-in. It’s the LAUNCH in 3D button – the little java code that can be embedded into any website that when a visitor clicks on the LAUNCH in 3D – immediately it turns the 2D site into a virtual world!

Thanks for visiting and posting!
